Ketlin Kuusing and Sten Saarits "The Paths That Endure the Most"

Hop Gallery 17.01.8.02.2026

Men have learned to think in terms of things – things appear and disappear. But when thinking in terms of connections, we can see that the mysterious force that creates and ends things is also passing on from one thing to another. The force keeps appearing in order to disappear, and disappears to re-appear. It divides and unites spaces while creating both fragmentary and fractal surfaces and spheres.

At their exhibition The Paths That Endure the Most, artists Ketlin Kuusing and Sten Saarits have been inspired by this motif and the gallery floor serves as the space to express transience and endurance. Among other things, the carpet above the gallery floor features the traditional Persian knot or Senneh. The ancient Persian culture where the knot is originating from has disappeared but the tradition has been passed down to us despite its disappearance. Ornaments come and go, yet the need for patterns and rhythms as well as to organize chaos remains.

Ketlin Kuusing (b. 1978) is a designer focusing on the relationship between textiles and space in her work. The artist is particularly fond of researching and interpreting the history and function of carpets as well as the contradiction between their meaning and materiality, grandeur and everyday nature.

Sten Saarits (b. 1987) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in time based media. In his artistic practice, Saarits focuses on sound installations composed from sound recordings, which emphasize sensory experience and spatial signifiers. His artwork often features oversimulation and he enjoys observing the influence(s) from the behavioural norms in culture.
