Reedest, 20. novembrist on Tartu Kunstimaja suures saalis avatud grupinäitus „Tagasi”, milles osalevad Damien Beyrouthy (Prantsusmaa/Liibanon), Dénes Farkas (Eesti/Ungari), Anna Guilló (Prantsusmaa/Kataloonia) ja Pascal Navarro (Prantsusmaa). Näituse kuraatorid on Sara Bédard-Goulet (Tartu Ülikool) ja Peeter Talvistu (Tartu Kunstnike Liit).
Näituse jaoks paluti kunstnikel keskenduda kultuuri retseptsioonile ning kajastada seda läbi isiklike loomingupraktikate nagu joonistus (Navarro & Guilló), heliinstallatsioon (Farkas) ning meediakunst (Beyrouthy). „Tagasi” uurib ideed vastastikusest suhtest kunstiteoste ja neid kogevate inimeste vahel, sest kohtumine mõjutab mõlemat osapoolt võrdselt. Lisaks sellele vaadeldakse inimeste aktiivset reaktsiooni teostele, mille tulemusena võivad lihtsad kommentaarid viia lõpuks uute teoste loomiseni nagu on näha sellel näitusel.
Kuigi kujutiste kogemine ja neile reageerimine võib toimuda vaid isiklikul tasandil, leiavad need kohtumised tihti aset olukordades, mida on võimalik seostada laiema sotsiaalse ja ajaloolise kontekstiga. Seega sisalduvad kõigis teostes ka viited meie ühiskonda vormivatele mineviku ja oleviku sündmustele ning tegelevad retseptsiooni kui sellisega. Nelja isikliku lähtekoha abil pöörab näitus pea peale kunstiteoste ja kultuuriloomingu retseptsiooni küsimuse, näidates, et tegu on protsessiga, mis muudab aktiivselt nii publikut kui nende kogetut.
Näitus on osa loometeadusprojektist „Retseptsioonisündmused”, mis toimub Aix-Marseille Ülikooli, Côte d’Azuri Ülikooli ning Tartu Ülikooli koostöös ning mida toetab TÜ humanitaarteaduste ja kunstide valdkond. Projekti raames leiavad Tartust aset konverents, doktorikool ja kolm kunstinäitust. Lisaks Tartu Kunstimajale on Kogo galeriis avatud Bruno Goosse „Sanatoorne atmosfäär” (24.10.–05.12.2020) ning ülikooli Jakobi 2 õppehoones Jean Arnaud’ „Servale” (21.11.2020–16.02.2021). Näitust „Tagasi” toetavad Eesti Kultuurkapital ja Prantsuse Instituut Eestis.
„Tagasi” on avatud 13. detsembrini ning rändab seejärel edasi Vilniuse galeriisse Titanikas.

From Friday, 20 November the large gallery of the Tartu Art House will host the group exhibition “Returns” with the artists Damien Beyrouthy (France/Lebanon), Dénes Farkas (Estonia/Hungary), Anna Guilló (France/Catalonia) and Pascal Navarro (France) participating. The exhibition is curated by Sara Bédard-Goulet (University of Tartu) and Peeter Talvistu (Tartu Artists’ Union).
For this exhibition, the artists were invited to reflect on the idea of reception and to question it through their respective practice, including drawing (Navarro & Guilló), sound installation (Farkas) and media art (Beyrouthy). “Returns” looks at the idea of a reciprocal gaze between the artworks and the people who experience them since both sides are equally affected by the encounter. It also considers the active role of people reacting to the works, commenting on them and eventually even leading to new productions, as it is the case here.
Although encountering representations and responding to them can only happen on an individual level, these encounters often take place in situations that can be connected to a wider societal and historical context. Therefore, the works also share a common reference to past and present events that shape our society. Through four singular perspectives, “Returns” thus turns around and upside down the question of the reception of artworks and other cultural productions, showing that it is a process in which the audience is actively being transformed by and transforming what they experience.
The exhibition is part of the research-creation project “Response Events” that is organised in collaboration with the Aix-Marseille University, the Côte d’Azur University and the University of Tartu, where it is supported by the Faculty of Humanities and Arts. It culminates this autumn with a conference, a doctoral workshop and three art exhibitions in Tartu. Besides the Tartu Art House, the Kogo Gallery will host Bruno Goosse’s “Sanatorium’s Atmosphere (24.10.–05.12.2020) and Jean Arnaud’s “To the Edge” will be on display in the Jakobi 2 university building (21.11.2020–16.02.2021). “Returns” is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the French Institute of Estonia.
“Returns” is open until 13 December and will then travel to the Titanikas Gallery in Vilnius.
