ARS Showroom #78: Kati Saarits "Assemblage: Cuts"

ARS Showroom Gallery 9.30.01.2026

MonFri 1218

Exhibition opening on Friday, 9. January at 17:00.

The exhibition “Assemblage: Cuts” continues artist’s ongoing research on home, craft and local material culture, with a focus on object categories and functionalities that have quietly disappeared from domestic spaces. New installative collages are made using paper sewing patterns, DIY craft instructions and pattern sheets found in between Soviet-era home magazines. The exhibition looks at magazines as carriers of collective memory and experiments with ways of bringing these familiar fragments together again.

Kati Saarits's work is defined by a sensitive approach to materiality and with an intuitive, hand-driven process. Moving between applied and visual arts, she explores the transitional spaces between functional objects and sculptural forms, addressing hierarchies that exist between everyday applied objects and the language of fine art. Through material-based installations and by developing her own techniques rooted in traditional crafts, she works with ideas of objecthood and functionality. Her research focuses on local material culture heritage, while her practice lingers on still-life-like arrangements and the mundane.
