I dreamt that I was weighing stones – it means I’m doing hard but profitable work.
I didn’t dream that the beginning is the same as the end, whether it’s falling asleep or waking up, the darkness before or after the dream, nonexistence before birth or after death.
I dreamt of the sea – it means I’ll receive good news from someone far away, someone I haven’t heard from in a long time.
I didn’t dream of the countless moments lost between carefully framed memories, moments that can suddenly come haunting back. They don’t ask permission, don’t wait in line, don’t show their true face.
I dreamed of shooting a gun at the eaves – it means I’m doing something harmful and vain.
I didn’t dream of all those thousands of symbols I could have seen and assigned meaning to. Didn’t dream, didn’t notice, or didn’t understand?
Egle Ehtjen (born 1990) is an artist who lives and works in Tallinn. She studied animation at the Estonian Academy of Arts, has created illustrations and short comics, and over time has gravitated toward abstraction, finding inspiration in nature, esoteric ramblings, and things difficult to put into words. In her work, she combines traditional media such as ink and watercolor with digital editing and animation.
Thanks: Tiina Vändre, Sten Saarits, Mirjam Proos, Janno Lepind, Erko Ever.
Exhibition is supported by Estonian Artists’ Association
